Lisboa

Shot on medium format film, this Lisbon travel photography series is my way of documenting the atmosphere, architecture, and everyday pace of Lisbon through a cinematic documentary approach. I spent my time wandering through the streets, waterfronts, back alleys, and old neighbourhoods of the city, photographing the small details and quiet moments that give Lisbon its character.

I’ve always preferred photographing places as they are, rather than trying to stage anything. For me, travel photography is about observation — watching how people move through a city, how the light hits a building, or how certain places feel at different times of day. Lisbon naturally lends itself to that way of working. The faded architecture, old trams, worn textures, coastal light, and slower rhythm of the city all felt cinematic without needing to force anything.

Shooting on medium format film slowed the whole process down in a good way. You become more selective with what you photograph, more aware of composition, colour, and atmosphere. The analogue look from medium format film gave the images a softness and tonal depth that suited Lisbon perfectly, especially with the warm light and muted colours throughout the city.

As a London-based documentary and travel photographer, my work is heavily influenced by street photography, cinema, and editorial storytelling. I’m more interested in honest moments and atmosphere than polished tourist imagery. Whether I’m photographing quiet residential streets, waterfront scenes, local cafés, or the changing architecture of a city, I try to make work that feels immersive and real.

This series explores the contrast between old and new within Lisbon — traditional Portuguese buildings sitting alongside modern city life, quiet side streets just off busy tourist areas, and moments of stillness within a constantly changing city. Through medium format film photography and documentary storytelling, I wanted to create a body of work that feels timeless, observational, and rooted in place.

My wider travel photography and documentary photography projects have been photographed across London, Europe, North Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. Across all of my work, I’m interested in culture, atmosphere, architecture, and everyday life — using analogue photography and cinematic composition to create images that feel honest and lived in rather than overly polished.
